English Language Arts - CVC Words Focus
CVC Word Family Games
LEAVES CVC DICE GAME
Roll the dice to see who can build the most words! Use the bookmarks as a reference for all the possible word combinations. Keep track of all the words built on the cute leaf shaped word tracker!
CVC WORD FAMILY TREE GAME
Learn about word families by adding consonant leaves to different word family trees. Play as a group, or use a timer to see how many words you can create in just one minute!
Short Vowel Dominoes
Any game that teaches literacy is a winner in my book. This is a fun game and great tool for teaching CVC words and Word Families. We play normal dominoes and take turns creating words until we are out of dominoes. Then we switch it up and try finding words for different word families. To my great surprise, my daughter started playing this on her own during recess.
Reading Lessons
There are only two resources I like to make sure I include on each weekโs lesson plan, Prodigies Music (below) and Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons. This book has thousands of 5 star reviews on Amazon for a reason. Itโs an effective, no-prep way to teach reading. We are 30 or so lessons in and I can already see a difference, my daughter actually sounds out the words instead of guessing.
The lessons are short (15-20min), easy to grasp and sequential. The entire lesson is scripted and color coded so itโs fool proof, just read the words in pink. It also is designed for kids that donโt know their alphabet or letter sounds yet, so you can start right away. Their claim is that after completing all 100 lessons your child will be able to read at a 2nd grade level!
Math - Addition Focus
Leaves Math Pack
Perfect for Fall! Build a solid foundation of math facts with these fun Autumn themed math centers, worksheets and game. This Leaves Math Pack provides weeks of worksheets and activities that work on math operation skills progressively. Assess fluency and consistency with the same math equations in different formats.
Lego Board Game
We love anything LEGO, so we were excited to play these LEGO themed FREE Addition and Subtraction Board Games. They are made by one of my favorite shops Playdough to Plato. This pack includes 3 game boards: addition to 5, subtraction within 5 and a mix of both.
Our printable board game set-up is to use one of these magnetic lap boards and these magnetic push pin magnets as player tokens and bar magnets to keep the game board in place.
Art and Music
Crayon Leaf Mobile
So this was a fun experiment. I recently organized our crayon collection in rainbow order (thanks The Home Edit!). And I had all these old broken crayons I didnโt know what to do with.
So we played around with some old crayons, a kitchen peeler and my heat gun and we ended up making a melted Crayon Leaf Mobile.
We used the leaf shapes from this weekโs Leaves Nature Journal freebie. If you donโt have a pair of precision craft scissors for cutting, I highly recommend them. We just shaved off pieces of crayon in fall colors and used a crafterโs heat gun to melt the wax. If you donโt have a heat gun you could place them on wax paper in the oven on low heat and they should melt pretty well. Then I hung it on a small dowel with fishing line. And tadaโฆ a mobile.
Supplies: leaf templates, wax paper, old crayons, precision craft scissors, peeler, heat gun, fishing line, twine, and a dowel.
Kandinsky Trees
By: Little Bins For Little Hands
This was a fun and easy no-prep art project that also gave me the opportunity to talk about famous artists.
These awesome free Kandinsky Tree printables have two versions. One you just color in, the other you color then cut and assemble the tree. This is one of several famous art projects on Little Bins For Little Hands. I also love these Warhol Leaf Pop Art printables.
Leaf Man
Make your own leaf man!
Take the leaves you collected on your nature walk and make your own leaf man. I liked using a black background to make the leaves pop. I also used glue dots instead of glue so that it dried quickly. Just add some googly eyes and a pinecone nose to your leaf man and heโs complete! Based on the book โLeaf Manโ by Lois Ehlert.
Supplies: leaves, glue dots, googly eyes, black paper and mini pinecones.
Draw Fall Leaves
By: Art For Kids Hub
Although I love the funny faces that usually accompany Art For Kids Hub videos, their realistic art is amazing! Loved this How To Draw Fall Leaves video. Enjoy!
Prodigies Music
DoโฆReโฆMiโฆ
We love Prodigies! Prodigies Music is simply an incredible curriculum for teaching music. Ages 2-5 is the critical time to develop a life-long sense of pitch. Their curriculum is designed to develop a sense of pitch with easy to use desk bells that donโt require any tuning. They also teach piano, recorder and ukulele. Their subscription includes everything you can think of 450+ videos, worksheets, free bell mats, sheet music all color coded so itโs super easy to learn. If you donโt have an instrument they have a bunch of rhythm focused content that doesnโt require an instrument.
They have a free trial and discounts for annual memberships! Great deal! You can even check out some of their videos for free on YouTube.
Science
Why Do Leaves Change Color?

We love Sci Show Kids! Enjoy this fun and informative video about why leaves change color in the fall. Learn about chlorophyll and pigments.
Nature Journal
Students can journal about their adventures in nature, while developing their own non-fiction book. Includes a Table of Contents page so students can number the pages of their journal and add it to their book. Print full size or use the half sheet version to create a smaller book.
Sensory Bins
Fall Tree Sensory Activity
Typically, I like to create a sensory play activity that can be used over and over. But I saw this idea somewhere with rice and I had already dyed the popcorn all these beautiful colorsโฆso we did an extra sensory activity this week.
The dyed popcorn turned out great for all colors except green. I think I didnโt use enough dye the first time and I had to start over. Hereโs the recipe I used.
Filler: Dyed Popcorn Kernels
Supplies: cut toilet paper rolls, tree branch, wooden scoops.
Autumn Leaves Sensory Bin
I was really excited to try this new sensory filler and it did not disappoint. My girls seem to play with black beans the most, so I loved the idea of having something around the same size, but colorful!
Hereโs the recipe for the dyed popcorn. I used just regular popping corn, but Iโve seen other people use feed corn.
Filler: Dyed Popcorn Kernels
Supplies: pinecones, wooden leaves (Target dollar section), oak leaves, ginko leaf stem, aspen leaf stem, stacking cups (fall colors), wooden scoops.
Physical Education
