Write Your Halloween Adventure
This is my all time favorite product I have created. So many teachers have reached out to me about this saying how much their kids loved it, I hope yours do too.
Writing can be intimidating for young learners. Make it a Halloween adventure! Students will create their very own Haunted House Lift-the-Flap Book with this fun Halloween themed guided writing craft.
Learn number words one to five as the book progresses to discover more things in the house. For each page, students can choose their own adjective, noun, and action. Or use the options as inspiration and create your own one-of-a-kind Halloween story.
Graham Cracker Haunted Houses
Work on engineering skills while building amazing edible haunted houses! We love making โgingerbreadโ houses every year, so this year I thoughtโฆwhy not haunted houses?
We use graham crackers as the base since they are pre-baked and hold up pretty well. Just use icing as glue and add candy decorations to make your structure come to life. The best part is a crooked wall or falling structure just adds to the charm of your haunted house.
Get your free Halloween Award Badge printable to give out awards for each structure. There are eight different awards (Most Creative, Scariest, Craziest, Cutest, Weirdest, Most Festive, Most Original and Funniest) and a blank page to create your own.
Supplies: graham crackers, pre-bagged icing, assorted halloween candy, Halloween Award Badges
Costume Parade
I donโt know about you, but I absolutely love Halloween! My favorite part is getting dressed up in costume (we usually do a family theme).
So naturally, we have a costume bin where we store all our old costumes. We did a parade around our living room trying on old costumes and had a blast!
You can even use these free Halloween Award Badges to acknowledge the best costumes.
English Language Arts - CVC Words Focus
Halloween CVC Mystery Pictures
Your students will love these Halloween themed CVC word mystery pictures. Read CVC words and color by word family to uncover each hidden image. Perfect for independent or morning work binders.
Pumpkin CVC Word Builder
Practice building CVC words with these fun printable pumpkins and wheelbarrow mat place mat.
CVC Blocks
I discovered this awesome set of Mega Blocks with dry erase sides on them and we use them all the time for our spelling words.
Today, we used them to practice CVC Word families. We choose a CVC word and then wrote down other words in that family on the blocks. We used this free CVC Word List as a reference.
Although you canโt get these pre-made, these would be pretty simple to make. Just get some Mega Blocks and this dry erase tape and you have your own dry erase block kit!
Reading Lessons
There are only two resources I like to make sure I include on each weekโs lesson plan, Prodigies Music (below) and Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons. This book has thousands of 5 star reviews on Amazon for a reason. Itโs an effective, no-prep way to teach reading. We are 30 or so lessons in and I can already see a difference, my daughter actually sounds out the words instead of guessing.
The lessons are short (15-20min), easy to grasp and sequential. The entire lesson is scripted and color coded so itโs fool proof, just read the words in pink. It also is designed for kids that donโt know their alphabet or letter sounds yet, so you can start right away. Their claim is that after completing all 100 lessons your child will be able to read at a 2nd grade level!
Math - Addition Focus
Halloween Math - Double Ten Frames
Only Treats here! Build on your student's foundational math facts by focusing on teen numbers with this spooky Halloween Math Pack. Build, decompose and see equations for teen numbers to help your students see number patterns and relationships. Assess fluency and consistency with related math skills in different formats.
Black Cat Addition Color by Number
By: Fern Smithโs Classroom Ideas
This was a the perfect fun activity to help us review addition facts. It was also an easy way to assess what facts my daughter is now fluent in (can tell me in 3 seconds) and which ones she needs practice with.
Art and Music
Halloween Tea Light Holders
At one point, I discovered Oui Yogurt and ended up with a ton of these cute jars. So I thought we could use them to make some fun tea light holders.
We just cut some tissue paper in Halloween colors and used Mod Podge to glue them to the outside. For the details I used a combination of eye stickers, black construction paper and pipe cleaners, then to finish it off I added some glitter to make it really sparkle at night!
Supplies: Oui yogurt jars, tissue paper, Mod Podge, black construction paper, eye stickers, pipe cleaners, battery powered tea lights and glue gun.
How To Draw a Haunted House
By: Art For Kids Hub
We had a blast adding our own details to this fun Haunted House. I love that Art For Kids Hub makes learning to draw fun and easy with step by step instruction for each movement.
We followed the instructions for the basic haunted house and we added our own spooky details like spider webs and a table full of eye balls!
Stick Monsters
My five-year-old daughter loved making these! I hot glued the craft sticks together for her and she did the rest. We painted the craft sticks and then added our fun spooky details once it dried. She loved making our own decorations for Halloween!
Supplies: craft sticks, paint, construction paper, googly eyes, glitter
Paint Your Own Haunted House
I found this awesome haunted house painting kit in the dollar section at Target and I really wish I got two. They both loved painting their house. I was delightfully surprised how nicely they painted together.
Unfortunately, you canโt order this exact house. But this Craft Your Own Haunted House kit is pretty great, and less messyโฆlol!
Prodigies Music
DoโฆReโฆMiโฆ
We love Prodigies! Prodigies Music is simply an incredible curriculum for teaching music. Ages 2-5 is the critical time to develop a life-long sense of pitch. Their curriculum is designed to develop a sense of pitch with easy to use desk bells that donโt require any tuning. They also teach piano, recorder and ukulele. Their subscription includes everything you can think of 450+ videos, worksheets, free bell mats, sheet music all color coded so itโs super easy to learn. If you donโt have an instrument they have a bunch of rhythm focused content that doesnโt require an instrument.
They have a free trial and discounts for annual memberships! Great deal! You can even check out some of their videos for free on YouTube.
Science
Parts of a Bat
We hope you enjoy this fun Parts of a Bat freebie as part of your Halloween lessons. This worksheet was designed and created by Ava (6). She hopes it helps other students learn the anatomy of a bat while practicing handwriting skills.
Bat and Spider Anatomy
We didnโt do a bat or spider unit this year, so this was a fun way to learn a little bit about these amazing creatures.
This fun activity only took about 15 minutes and worked on handwriting skills, fine motor skills and we learned bat and spider anatomy.
STEM Pumpkin Tower
Pumpkin tower challenge! Design and build your own pumpkin tower out of toothpicks and pumpkin candy. Learn basic engineering concepts and three dimensional shapes.
We used Brachโs Mellowcreme Pumpkins and the candies fell apart so we were only able to make a cube. If we get a chance to do these again, I think Iโm going to use these Sour Jelly Pumpkins.
Supplies: toothpicks, candied pumpkins
Pumpkin Catapult Engineering Activity
Build your very own pumpkin catapult with just a few household supplies!
Weโve made these before when we first got the Awesome Engineering Activities For Kids book. But we thought we would experiment with a new version using larger craft sticks. We found that we were able to launch the pumpkins even farther with the larger sticks and we had a lot of fun decorating them too.
To make these, rubber band 5 craft sticks together on both ends. Then take the other two craft sticks and rubber band one end. Pry apart the two craft sticks and slide the stack of sticks in the middle. Then attach the spoon to top at the cross section and the bottom.
Supplies Per Catapult: 7 craft sticks, 5 rubber bands, plastic spoons, Halloween stickers.
Sensory Bins
Potion Making - Sensory Play
This was by far my favorite activity for Halloween week. We kicked off the week with this fun sensory play activity that really got us into the Halloween spirit.
To make the potion base I put 5 or 6 pumps of dish soap in my blender with a little water and some green food coloring. I pulsed it a few times and added more water until I got a nice bubbly consistency.
Then, I pulled together some ingredients for our potion like eyeballs, spiders, green rice โboogersโ, skulls, black bean โbeetlesโ and I made a small batch of purple colored water.
I set the table with our spooky table cloth, cauldron, other halloween decorations and some cute mini cauldrons for them to make their own mini potions. Happy Potion making!
Filler: dish soap, food coloring and water.
Supplies: dyed green rice (hereโs the recipe), black beans, cauldron, eyeballs, spiders, spooky cloth, mini cauldrons.
Halloween Sensory Bin
Boo! Celebrate All Hallows Eve with this easy Halloween themed bin. I used black beans as the base and just added any small Halloween toys. The spiders were my favorite find, but I love the haunted house because it lights up too. I also added some spider rings, erasers and pumpkins.
Filler: black beans
Supplies: Halloween erasers, Halloween figurines, mini pumpkins, Haunted House, spider rings, mini cauldrons, wooden scoops
